Job Seekers with disabilities
The current government is implementing new plans and policies so as to generate new employment opportunities for people with disabilities. In order to do so, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has designed the Selective Placement Program Coordinators (SPPC) Directory which provides information and technical assistance for job seekers with mental or physical handicaps. The main objective of this program is to determine and break barriers to work.
There are two categories for people with disabilities: competitively and non-competitively. Both categories have different requirements and are aimed at different people.
Competitively: in this category are included people with moderate mental or physical disability- in other words, disabled but independent. Nowadays, there are over 16,000 vacancies offered by the government. You have to fill in the form OF-612, and complete the Online Resume Builder.
Non-Competitively: in this category are included people with severe physical and mental disabilities, that is to say, psychiatric disabilities, mental retardation, quadriplegia, epilepsy, among others. By law, 30 % of personnel from appointed authorities must be disable veterans. Consequently, send your job application to the OPM, including proof of disability and the certification of job readiness issued by a medical professional.
Note: Include the code number: 5 CFR 213.3102(u) in your job application if you are disabled person.
